The Work Package 3 (WP3) aims to transform the knowledge developed within the project into concrete, accessible, and immediately usable learning tools. In particular, WP3 develops an introductory educational programme on Nature-based Solutions (NbS), designed to help students, learners, and teachers understand how these solutions can counteract the impacts of climate change and strengthen the resilience of ecosystems and communities.
The programme is structured as a modular system of digital Open Educational Resources (OERs), organised around the three dimensions of sustainability — environmental, economic, and social — to provide a comprehensive and integrated understanding of the role of NbS. This approach connects theory and practice, showing how different types of NbS can be applied to address specific climate challenges.
The first module, focused on the environmental dimension, analyses the direct impacts of climate change, such as floods and desertification, and presents NbS based on ecosystem-based mitigation, which help reduce risks through ecosystem restoration and management. The second module, dedicated to the economic dimension, explores how NbS can support the adaptation of productive activities, such as agriculture and forestry, through ecosystem-based adaptation, contributing to more resilient economic systems. The third module addresses the social dimension, examining the impacts of climate change on quality of life, particularly in urban contexts, and presenting the role of green infrastructures in improving community well-being.
Each module is designed for direct use in educational settings and includes a teaching manual, a teaching presentation, and an assessment tool to evaluate learners’ understanding. All materials are developed in digital format and made available in multiple languages to ensure accessibility and wide dissemination across Europe.
A key element of WP3 is its participatory validation process. The programme is tested in each partner country with the involvement of experts, teachers, and learners, as well as Associated Partners, in order to collect structured feedback and improve its quality, effectiveness, and usability. This ensures that the learning materials are not only scientifically sound but also practically applicable in diverse educational contexts.
The final result is a validated, ready-to-use educational programme, available on an e-learning platform, providing a concrete tool to integrate Nature-based Solutions into education and to develop competences needed to address the challenges of the green transition.
Through WP3, RENATURE contributes to making sustainability education more practical, inclusive, and action-oriented, supporting the development of key skills for green jobs and strengthening the capacity of younger generations to build a more resilient future.
